RELIGIOUS LANSCAPES: crosses and memorials in the margins roads

Abstract

The work aims to present and reflect on the geosymbols - crosses, chapels, tombstones, mortuary urns - found, mainly on the shores of the roads as Brazilian religious landscape, an inherent hierofania of the homo religiosus taking closer symbolic and cultural practices in communities with identified of popular religiosity, particulary related to the Roman Catholic creed, though relations syncretic quite considerable and complex analysis. It was elaborated from concepts formulated for diverse authors such as Eliade (2001), Tuan (1980), Rosendahl (1997, 2001, 2003) and Correa (1997) and seeks to expand dialogue cultural geography with religious and cultural phenomena that about us.
