About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Atelie Geografico Journal is a quarterly publication of the Graduate Program in Geography of the Institute of Social and Environmental Studies (IESA), of the Federal University of Goias (UFG), Brazil, with blind peer-reviewed scientific articles in the field of Geography and related Sciences, such as History, Education, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Anthropology, Sociology, Tourism and Urban and Regional Planning, and Interdisciplinary approaches, but not limited to them. The Atelie Journal is concerned with the study of the complexities that permeate and affect the relations between ‘humans’ and the contemporary urban and rural spaces, territories, landscapes, natural resources, and the production systems. The Journal publishes papers on the basis of their academic and scientific merits, knowledge contribution, and originality. No fees are charged from the contributors at any reviewing or publishing stages.

The Atelie Geografico Journal also has as a mission to integrate research projects and researchers by creating a multidisciplinary platform and networks in benefit of the intellectual and scientific production.

Peer Review Process

All articles submitted for publication, in accordance with the guidelines for authors, are evaluated by a maximum of three (3) referees,members of the Scientific Committee of the Journal. Appraisers will indicate the opinion, which will beforwarded to the author, containing an indication of approval without restrictions, approval with suggested changes or disapproval.

When there suggested changes, the referee will indicate the corrections of the manuscript and publication only happen when all changes are completed satisfactorily.

To ensure the integrity of the blind peer-review for submission to this journal, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. This involves the authors, editors, and reviewers (who upload documents as part of their review) checking to see if the following steps have been taken with regard to the text and the file properties:

  1. The authors of the document have deleted their names from the text, with "Author" and year used in the references and footnotes, instead of the authors' name, article title, etc.
  2. With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file (see under File in Word), by clicking on the following, beginning with File on the main menu of the Microsoft application: File > Save As > Tools (or Options with a Mac) > Security > Remove personal information from file properties on save > Save.
  3. With PDFs, the authors' names should also be removed from Document Properties found under File on Adobe Acrobat's main menu.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate free access to its contents, following the principle that scientific knowledge available free to the public supports a greater global knowledge.

Presentation

Travelers naturalists of the eighteenth century were considered pioneers of knowledge. His expeditions have resulted in geographic work that still sustains the current knowledge, were forged under the magnifying glass in the place of thought which emerged for travel in the new world. The headquarters of the world was, with a thirst for knowledge concatenated to the Enlightenment and romantic outbursts of his time. Many of them, from those philosophical contributions, in addition to using perception and notes from trips to record the sublime or picturesque landscapes they saw, they painted them as if they wanted to make the studio a geographical sense. It was apparent that they had a passion for landscape - and knew, by pictorial art, represent them. No wonder the category landscape wedge as a geographic concept from the experience of a studio. And still a concept of inheritance pictorial bound to components of perception and sensation, as the shapes, smells, odors, colors, etc.. The world has changed, and how to meet him. And more specifically, has changed the way of proceeding geographical knowledge of the landscapes. Instead of the bridge made of wood, installed planisphere for the fingers act with brushes, the brushes and ink blots, we have the laptop that is conducted in a suitcase, there is the Internet filing a worm information events, situations and landscapes from around the world. And more importantly, there is imagined landscapes, developed by agents other than those places, landscapes that change several times in a single day shift. The name of the journal - Ateliê Geográfico - intend to restore the artistic sense of the landscape, enhancing the adventure travelers and imagine that the "geographic painting" the moment requires provisions, instruments and using the cognitive actions that conquered the world. In this case, it is to interpret the complexity of contemporary space, the structural problems that afflict human life and create a territorial dispute never seen before. It is, in the current geographical, discover new ways to use and representation of nature, culture and the participation of its components in the creation of identities, subjectivities and territorial geopolitical strategies developed by hegemonic actors from the merging of science, technology , information, economy and state. It's that time of the requirement that foster critical thinking alternations and propositions for a new model of building space and life.

Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

The Atelie Geografico Journal is fully dedicated and committed to safeguarding ethics in publication and to quality papers.  For it, standards of ethical behaviour are consequently expected of all parties involved: Editors, contributors, authors, coauthors, reviewers, and any administrative and editorial staff.

In particular, the concerning parties should be aware of:


Authors/coauthors/contributors:

Authors should be objective in their discussions and on the significance of the research. The articles are expected to make an original contribution and, or, to fill gaps in the literature advancing knowledge field and areas of the Sciences.  A paper of publishable quality is expected to be well- referenced with clear and consistent methodological approaches in a way others can be able to replicate the experiments. Fake, fabricated, consciously biased, or inaccurate statements are regarded unethical behaviour and cannot be tolerated. Plagiarism in all its aspects is a serious unethical infringement. Copying and using someone`s else work, views, ideas, approaches, methods, tools, texts, citations, images, figures, diagrams, etc., without giving the proper credits, using adequate citation codes and paying attention to copyrights is of course unacceptable. Submitting the same paper concurrently to more than one Journal is also an unethical publishing action and must not be practiced. For co-authored papers, the corresponding author should certify that there are no conflicting or dispute issues among the parties in approving the final version for publication.


Editors:

Editors should assess the papers solely on the basis of their academic merit. An editor must not at any circumstance use unpublished information in their own research without a prompt written agreement of the author(s). Editors should take sensible measures when ethical claims are presented related to a submitted paper or published paper. Editors may wish to consult with the editor-in-chief and, or, other Journal`s editors before having a final decision on each case.


Reviewers:

Any paper/manuscript received for review must be treated as strictly confidential documents. First hand privileged information, ideas, approaches or methodologies/methods obtained through peer review process must be kept confidential. Reviews should be conducted objectively with supporting arguments and, where applicable, by highlighting specific areas for improvement. Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review an appointed paper/manuscript should inform the editor in question and excuse himself/herself from reviewing it. There should not happen to have conflict of interest between an invited reviewer and the paper/author(s) under assessment; conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the manuscripts.
