The relationship between art and medicine has existed since the Renaissance, which allowed the technical and theoretical consolidation of both disciplines. Likewise, medicine and its images have served as input for the creation of poetics that propose reflections on social problems on a political, economic, and social level. Therefore, some artists from the middle of the 20th century supported their processes of creation by studying and understanding medical images, to establish reflections and give visibility to these sociocultural quests. From a cultural semiotic approach, this article presents some approaches on the established relationships between art and medicine and reflects on the plastic production of the artists Libya Posada from Colombia and Mónica Manzur from Brazil. I conclude that the works of both artists find in their process of formalization and conceptualization a reflective heritage in neurological images to reflect on the human condition at a biological and social level.
