This article discusses the ?basic principles?, guidelines and processes of for the registry of Northeast?ern? Popular Puppet Theater - Mamulengo, Babau, João Redondo and Cassimiro Coco –as ?part of Brazilian ?cultural ?h?eritage. The article is based on ?the registry ?file, which is one of the require?ments ?of IPHAN ?( the National Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage?) to obtain the title mentioned above.

Izabela Costa Brochado, Universidade de Brasília, Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brasil.

Izabela Costa Brochado possui graduação em Artes Cênicas pela Universidade de Brasília (1982), mestrado em História pela Universidade de Brasília (2001) e doutorado em Drama Studies pelo Trinity College - University of Dublin (2006). É professora adjunto do Departamento de Artes Cênicas, Instituto de Artes da Universidade de Brasília das áreas de Pedagogia do Teatro e Teatro de Formas Animadas. Concentra a sua atuação nos seguintes temas: teatro de bonecos, cultura popular, tradição e memória.
