Nos últimos vinte anos, estudos inovadores vêm resgatando a importância e os significados dos objetos entalhados em marfim elaborados durante o gótico europeu. Entre eles encontram-se Gothic Ivory Project, site que reúne mais de 5.000 peças e o catálogo Medieval Ivory Carvings. 1200-1550, publicado pelo Victoria & Albert Museum em 2014 .
