Abstract

Relations between community and open spaces in low-income housing neighborhood include the possibility of evoker proactive behaviors (manifesting appropriation in spaces and developing sense of belonging) or rejection (through vandalism actions and spatial depreciation). In this sense, this interdisciplinary study between Architecture and Psychology presents tools of behavior mapping as well as survey of spatial particularities involved in the composition of each local in the housing neighborhood. The study objects are two squares in each the housing neighborhood, Jardim Esperança e Augusto Franco, both located in South area of city of Aracaju, Sergipe state. This study revealed open spaces, provided by law, need to collect a range of environmental qualities to that spaces may be recognized and appropriated by users. Due to the variability of the spheres involved in this study, it is understood that these qualities can be presented different of heterogeneous contexts have presented here.
