Abstract

ABSTRACT: Reinforced concrete buildings in general are subject to the emergence of pathologies manifestations throughout their useful life, caused by environmental aggressiveness, design nonconformities, construction, or changes in the function of the building, thus requiring repair, recovery or reinforcement of the structure. This article presents a theoretical study on the dimensioning of the reinforcement of beams submitted to bending with CRFC (Composites Reinforced with Carbon Fiber). The theoretical basis was constructed from ACI 440-2R (2008) and ABNT NBR 6118 (2014), where the calculation model is based on the Ultimate Limit State (ELU) complemented with studies conducted through bibliographic reviews of works on the subject. A problem situation was idealized in order to perform the applications of the theories addressed, where after the application of the calculations, a great potential of bending reinforcement was observed with CRFC, presenting low changes in the cross-section of the structural element, high degree of strength of CRFCs, with excellent mechanical properties and showing to be an excellent material to be used in the reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures. However, it was observed that reinforced concrete beams originally dimensioned at the ductility limit, when strengthened, fatally crossed this limit, being of great importance analysis of the situation for the dubious behavior of the structural element
