Analysis of installation damage suffered by geogrids and geotextiles in the use of structural reinforcement
Abstract
ABSTRACT: The geosynthetics use is relatively new in engineering, gaining prominence only after the period of industrialization, where the petrochemical industries grew. In Brazil, this process began only after World War II, and its first major work was located along the SP-123 highway. The main objectives of this paper are: (I) to analyze, through a bibliographical review, the geogrids and geotextiles when used as reinforcements of earth masses, indicating the efficiency of each material in different types of soils and with different granulometry found in nature; (II) increase knowledge about geosynthetics. The methodology, as a review text, focused on intense and extensive bibliographical research in journals specialized in the subject, such as Geosynthetics International and Geotextiles and Geomembranes and books on the subject, as well as the search in thesis and dissertation banks of the universities of São Paulo (USP), Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Brasília (UnB). The results show the residual tensile strength of the different geosynthetic samples, with geogrids being more resistant to mechanical damages. The main contribution of this text to the area is to take knowledge of the geosynthetics.
