Abstract

Among the parameters that interfere in the design of the prestressed beams, losses are the most important factor for optimization and economy. However, due to an iterative and repetitive process, its calculation becomes impracticable if carried out manually, requiring professionals to adopt estimated values frequently used during the stage of design. Based on the values proposed by Pfeil (1984), this paper aims at investigating the prestress losses of pretensioned precast beams simply supported considering different concrete strengths, guiding structural engineers with the values of prestressing losses when manual calculations are performed. The obtained results show that the usual predictions are close to that one calculated with the aid of computational package software.
