Abstract

In the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, a name is always a propositional function. Wittgenstein makes a radical shift in the Fregean opposition between saturated and unsaturated entities. Any sentential component which is not itself a sentence is unsaturated. The proposition is therefore a synthesis of propositional functions. The name is just a limit case of propositional function, and as such it can be negated.

Author Biography

João Vergilio Gallerani Cuter, USP

Bachelor in philosophy in the University of São Paulo (1997) and a Ph.d. in philosophy in the University of São Paulo (1993). Currently he is a researcher of the Brazilian Center of analysis and planning, and Assistant Professor-doctor of the University of São Paulo. Has experience in the area of Philosophy, with emphasis on philosophy of Logic, working mainly on the following themes: Wittgenstein, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, logic, philosophy of language and philosophy of mathematics.
