The objective of this article is to investigate the emergence of the notion of the unrealizable in Jean-Paul Sartre's Carnets de la drôle de guerre. We will attempt to show how this notion manifests itself in this work, particularly in an aesthetic sense. Thus, we will initially address the context in which Sartre “discovers” the unrealizable, demonstrating that it is, at this moment, an expectation of experiencing in life a feeling of beauty originally linked to the temporality of art. From this, we will emphasize the connection between the unrealizable and two experiences addressed in La Nausée, that is, adventure and perfect moments. Finally, we will reflect on possible solutions to the problem of the unrealizable.
