The presence of intestinal helminths eggs was evaluated in the urban publictransportation system of Belo Horizonte city. Passenger compartments of thirty
buses of different lines, which circulate between three main stations, were examined.
The modified method according to Graham (1941) was used for the analysis of the
collected material. The results indicated that 100% of the vehicles examined were
contaminated. Eggs of Ascaridae, Oxyuridae and Hymenolepis sp. were observed.
Eggs of Hymenolepis sp. were present in 93% of the buses analyzed. These results
show the contamination of the passenger’s compartments and indicate a potential
risk for the population using them.
