The objective of this work was to set up numerical parameters to help inthe characterization of Trypanosoma cruzi tripomastigotes based on their
dimensions, considering the difficulty to characterize T. cruzi tripomastigotes by
its morphological phenotype on microscopic visualization. Therefore, a statistic
analysis was performed on the length and width of 150 tripomastigote forms of five
T. cruzi strains recently isolated. The results showed a strong correlation between
length (C) and width (L) variables and three different groups were defined according
to the coefficient C/L. Thus the smallest forms exhibited C/L less than or equal to
7.06; medium forms presented a C/L interval between 7.06 and 8.12 and the largest
forms showed a C/L equal to or higher than 8.12.
