In 2010, the Brazilian Ministry of Health and the Reference Laboratory for Triatomine and Chagas Disease Epidemiology at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, launched the “Monitoring Network for Triatominae Insecticide Resistance” with a view to the following: 1) characterize and monitor the susceptibility/resistance of Brazilian triatomine populations to insecticides, 2) develop tools for the diagnosis of triatomine resistance to insecticides and 3) contribute to the evaluation and improvement of the activities developed by chemical control of triatomines
in the field. The implementation of this initiative, which is supported by the World Health Organization, is presented in detail in this work.
