Abstract

Mites of the family Cheyletidae have been reported in the house dust, associated
to animal and human disease, but little valued in the etiology of human diseases.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of mites of the family
Cheyletidae in house dust. Studies developed in the domiciliary ecosystem of 160
homes of the district of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, evidenced that 13
(0.85 %) of the mites found were of the family Cheyletidae, with 6.9 % of positive
domiciles. Cheyletus malaccensis, Ker bakeri, Cheyletus fortis, Cheletonella
vespertillionis and Cheletonella caucasica were the found species. The mite’s
species diversity found and its presence in close human contact, along with reported
related dermatitis to them deserves further studies on this topic.
