Bromeliaceae may serve as breeding sites for Aedes aegypti. This study showed thatmechanical measures can be a solution for the control of mosquito in those plants.
In the north area of the Paraná State of Brazil, which is an infestation area for Ae.
aegypti, fifteen bromeliads were monitored during one year after they received
treatment with wood straw and barks. Immature forms of mosquitoes were not
observed. This suggests that this natural material may help as a complementary
measure to vectorial control programs.
