Histoplasmosis and cryptococcosis are two of the most frequent fungal opportunistic infectionsin patients with advanced HIV/AIDS disease and CD4 T-cell counts below 100 cell/?L. Also, these mycoses are an important cause of morbimortality in those patients without antiretroviraltherapy. Simultaneous reactivation of disseminated infections due to Histoplasma capsulatum andCryptococcus neoformans have rarely been described in the literature, involving especially those patients with severe impairment of cellular immunity. Here we present a patient with advancedHIV/AIDS disease who developed a simultaneous reactivation of disseminated infections due to H.capsulatum and C. neoformans infections and we review the previously reported cases publishedin the medical literature.Downloads
