The aim of this study was to characterize the profile of workers of the oncologic hospital colonized by Enterobacteriaceae in the oral cavity. The variables investigated were bacterial colonization, socio-demographic, professional, disease/ infection and behavioral. The collection of saliva and microbiological analyzes were performed by standard techniques. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire. Among the 55 professional colonized by Enterobacteriaceae, 56.4% (31/55) also harbored in the oral cavity Staphylococcus and/or Pseudomonas. The professional category was the most common nursing technician. Episodes of disease/infection were reported among carriers. The data presented showed alarming realities for the context of health care. It is considered that these results contribute with important subsidies for programs to prevention and control of infection, because knowledge of carrier status reduces the risk of transmission of microorganisms.
