La enfermedad de Chagas afecta en Ia Región de Ias Américas a 18millones de personas, entre infectados por
T. cruzi y enfermos en etapas sintomáticas o paucisintomáticas de Ia afección. Otros 40 millones viven en áreas rurales o suburbanas bajo el riesgo de contraer esta parasitosis (1).
