From 1999 until 2006, we collected 2,867 specimens of 11 species of Anopheles in26 municipalities. Frequencies of Anopheles evansae, An. darlingi, An. albitarsis s.l.,
An. argyritarsis, An. parvus, An. galvaoi, and An. oswaldoi were statistically equal,
but significantly higher than those found for An. mediopunctatus, An. maculipes, An.
braziliensis, and An. kompi (p<0,05). An. darlingi and An. argyritarsis showed the
largest diversity. In the period studied 1,018 imported and 23 autochthonous cases
were reported. From the autochthonous cases, 21.7% were caused by Plasmodium
falciparum and 78.3% by P. vivax. In relation to the imported cases, the frequency of
P. falciparum or P. vivax malaria was similar to that observed for the autochthonous
cases, 27.2% and 72.8%, respectively.
