With the aim of characterizing the representation of science and scientists at the Museu de Astronomia e Ciências Afins (MAST), in Rio de Janeiro, we analyzed the long-term exhibition “Olhar o céu, medir a terra”. For this, we used a qualitative content analysis, following the perspectives of Laurence Bardin and Margrit Schreier. As a result, we identified coherence between the objectives of the exhibition and the content presented in it. Our analysis suggests that the contents of the exhibition have the potential to allow the public not specialized in Astronomy to expand the understanding and relationship of this field with social development and the country's history. Although there are several mentions of science as a collective construction – which we consider positive – we identify an imbalance in relation to the representation of scientists and professionals who work in collaborative roles and others with greater social prestige, in addition to the persistence of the issue of racial and gender diversity of scientists.
