In this article, we describe the socio-hydrodiversity of Indigenous and traditional peoples in the Tocantins-Araguaia basin with the dual objective of recognizing their knowledge of the waters and opposing these perceptions to the dominant models of agro-export and of the mega-hydraulic developmentalism. From a post-colonialist perspective, we listened to subjects located in the Chapada dos Veadeiros region, in the Northeast of Goiás, with semi-structured interviews, direct observation and participant observation as the main methodological strategies. We explored the knowledge of subjects from the quilombos of Moinho (Alto Paraíso de Goiás), Capela (Cavalcante) and the municipality of Colinas do Sul, as well as the worldviews of the avá-canoeiro. As a result, we emphasize the importance of inter-epistemic and intercultural dialogue to promote a new meaning for the waters of the Brazilian Cerrado in favor of its more sustainable use, which can bring new responses to the civilizing dilemmas that expose us to various crises.
