This paper aims to investigate the subject of nineteenth-century frontier in Argentina using two texts as primary sources of Eduardo Gutierrez -Juan Moreira and Sketch and military figures-, emphasizing the theme that motivates my thesis on the historical interpretation of the frontier and the construction mental and physical of the territory. The fact of working with contemporary sources, or barely advanced, -when war still resonates with the Indian- and with cultural studies of literary matrix, allows for this work-in particular, address issues related to the material life of the frontier, construction and conception of the territory and the representations that turn on images of national identity.
