Nietzsche in Helio Oiticica:
Tragic wanderings of an inebriated body through the Cosmococas

In this article, aesthetic, philosophical, and material aspects of Hélio Oiticica and Neville D’Almeida’s Cosmococas are analyzed to comprehend the body in the experience of a tragic artist. Through research in the Hélio Oiticica Project archive, an archaeology was sought to reveal the layers of this conception, finding inspiration in Nietzsche as the artist’s philosophical influence and understanding the use of cocaine as a creative material. Thus, one can perceive how Oiticica viewed experimentation as an aesthetic proposition that did not disconnect art from life. His Cosmococas were shown as a refuge given to the tragic experience that sought to transcend individuality toward collectivity.
