Amsterdã, 1632. Sob encomenda da guilda dos cirurgiões, Rembrandt van Rijn conclui a pintura Lição de anatomia do Dr. Nicolaes Tulp.
Quase em tamanho real, oito senhores aparecem encurvados sobre o foco luminoso. Esse foco, que apenas parcialmente alumia o branco das oito faces, é um cadáver anônimo, cujo antebraço, dissecado, ilustra a lição do doutor Tulp. Um dia antes da lição, Aris Kindt fora executado, por ordem da justiça de Estado. O motivo: assalto a mão armada. (...)
