Abstract

The “Mostra da Gravura” existed between 1978 and 2000 and was one of main periodic events in the country. This art exhibition has attracted engravers from all states of Brazil and reached an international scale in 1990’s. Although created for defending the “original engraving’s” autonomy, the “Mostra da Gravura” needed to review their conceptual bases. Thus, on one hand, if the concept of “engraving” expanded yourself, on the other hand, the “Mostras da Gravura” were over. In order to highlight the most important transformations of this historical process, this paper will compare some documents with brief descriptions of the “Mostras” in 1990’s.
