Este ensaio busca enfatizar as relações figurativas entre as propostas de Carmen Portinho, em 1938, e de Lúcio Costa, em 1956, para a nova capital do país a ser construída no Planalto Central. Ambas as propostas têm por base os conceitos urbanísticos da Cidade Funcionalista, defendidos por Le Corbusier, e os modelos de cidade contemporânea por ele criados. Elaboradas em momentos e contextos diferentes, tais propostas apresentam diferenças fundamentais que são aqui analisadas.
