O debate em torno das conseqüências e potencialidades surgidas com o advento de tecnologias como a engenharia genética, o seqüenciamento de genomas e a crescente penetração do digital no cotidiano tem se fortalecido cada vez mais no Brasil, já sendo bastante vigoroso no mundo acadêmico em geral. Com o anúncio recente do seqüenciamento completo do genoma humano, e com as polêmicas geradas em torno daquele fato, esse debate tomou proporções ainda maiores, e ocorreu uma pequena explosão de pesquisas e de interesse a respeito desse tema, tanto em meios intelectuais quando na mídia mais ampla.
