Corrida Armamentista, Minerais para a Guerra e Ascensão da Ultradireita
uma tragédia em três atos

As transformações recentes no sistema internacional têm fragilizado as instituições multilaterais e fortalecido posições conflituosas entre os Estados, impulsionando uma nova corrida armamentista. Esse processo possui uma profunda base material, na medida em que a expansão da produção de armamentos e a reposição de estoques ampliam a demanda por minerais. Como consequência, observa-se um estreitamento da relação entre as forças armadas e o setor extrativo. Paralelamente, há uma ascensão de governos e movimentos populistas de ultradireita. Este artigo busca estabelecer conexões entre esses três processos e discutir suas repercussões no contexto da América Latina, com destaque para o Brasil. Argumenta-se que esse cenário tende a intensificar o interesse de países consumidores pelo controle de reservas minerais na região, inclusive por meio de maior envolvimento governamental, aumentar a opacidade das cadeias minero-metalúrgicas e ampliar os riscos de degradação ambiental e de violações de direitos humanos.
