Abstract

The “Community Veterinary Pharmacy” (FVC) project is about a veterinary medicine bank which provides free medicine to low-income owners of dogs and cats. The goals are to make society aware of the responsible use of medicines, reduce waste and contribute to animal health and welfare. The activities take place in five steps: publicizing, collecting, sorting, discharging and monitoring the health evolution of the benefited animal. The project collected 280 medicines, of which approximately 66% (186) were suitable for veterinary use. 69 of them were donated, benefiting 56 owners and 40 animals. More than 20 educational materials and events were also produced on social networks, such as lives, lectures, virtual banners, as well through physical flyers and banners. The project continues and, in addition to social benefits, contributes to the technical and humanistic formation of future veterinarians as unique health professionals.
