Abstract

As a consequence of the big reservation and variety of ornamental rocks followed by its high production, the state of Espirito Santo has generated a high volume of residues during the process of extraction and cut of these rocks. Frequently, the residues derived from this process are deposited in decantation ponds or landfill what causes a serious environment impact. This paper analyzed the technical viability of reusing the residues derived from the beneficiation of ornamental rocks (RBRO) when applied to interlocked floors like PAVIESS, as a way to substitute the small aggregates. For that, it was analyzed the mechanical properties of the blocks of concrete in order to obey the regulatory norm. The features analyzed were based on a pattern (TP) from which it was substituted contents of small aggregates to RBRO in percentages of 5% (T5), 10% (T10) and 15% (T15). The blocks were submitted to axial compression samples and water absorption in order to obtain the results. Finally, it was observed that the replacement of small aggregates for 10% of RBRO, provides a technical viability concerning the use in traffic of pedestrians, traffic of light and commercial vehicles which can be use in the production of blocks of PAVIESS. The main contribution of this study is the possibility of producing blocks of PAVIESS using the RBRO with acceptance by the current regulation to be introduced in the market, being important the reduction of environmental impacts.
ER -
