Abstract

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is characterized by a combination of several cardiovascular risk factors, including abdominal obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, inflammation, insulin resistance and endothelial dysfunction. MetS has been related to accelerated atherosclerosis and increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
